The third offering that I have tried from Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers, General Tso’s Spicy Chicken is tasty, but nothing like the dish you would purchase from a Chinese restaurant.
Again, the dry ingredients are kept out of the sauce by its packaging. The carrots, peas, and red pepper are not crisp, but not mushy either. The chicken and rice have a nice flavor. The flavor of chicken, in particular, makes me wonder why in this entree it can taste like a chicken while the first frozen dinner I tried from Healthy Choice it tasted like nothing.
The sauce is tasty, a good balance of sweet and sour. It is not anything like what you get if you were to order take-out, but there is enough to coat everything in the dinner. And, it is NOT spicy. The box lists the spice level as two chiles out of five. A two pepper rating is very generous. There is no heat to this entree what-so-ever.
I have never had peas and carrots in general Tso’s, but that isn’t a bad thing. The rice has texture and the chicken tastes good. Everything goes together well and overall it was a tasty dish.
I will get this dinner again when I am looking for something to eat in the frozen food section.
